What equipment do I need to charge at home?
The ChargePoint Homeflex NEMA 6-50 is the Level 2 at home charging unit recommended by Mercedes-Benz.
I have questions about chargers and the installation process, who can I contact?
For your convenience, Mercedes-Benz has partnered with Q-Merit in order to assist you with all of your home charging needs. Please contact Q-Merit at 1 (888) 272-0090 or your local electrician for additional information.
What’s the difference between Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 (DCFC) charging?
Level 1 is charging at home with a 120-volt circuit (i.e., using a standard electrical outlet). This normally provides 3-5 miles of charging per hour.
Level 2 is charging with a 240-volt circuit in the home or workplace. This requires professional installation of either a NEMA 14-50 outlet or a hardwired charging station, and can usually refill your EV battery overnight.
Level 3 or Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) uses a 480-volt DC circuit, and typically provides about an 80% charge in just 30 minutes. These charging stations are generally found at commercial sites such as shopping centers or highway rest areas.
How often do I need to charge and how long does it take?
Every electric vehicle is different. For example, the EQS can go from 10% to 80% in just 31 minutes using a DC fast charging unit (maximum 200kW), and chances are, you will never have to go from empty to full to get where you are going. In most cases, people charge at home and at work, when their car is parked and they’re busy doing other things.
Electric Car Charging Options
If you’re curious about why to go electric, but worried about accessibility to Mercedes-Benz EV charging, the teams at our Mercedes-Benz dealerships in Rocklin, CA, Sacramento, CA, and El Dorado Hills, CA, are here to ease your mind. When you buy or lease an electric vehicle, we can help guide you in the right direction to set up electric car charging at home via a 240-volt outlet or with Home Flex from Charpoint that is installed through Qmerit.
Our lineup of electric charging vehicles come with level 2 chargers and DC fast charging capabilities to increase the charging speed when utilizing home charging or public charging stations. This reduces charging times and gives you the power to extend your driving range when on long road trips.
What makes electric charging even easier is access to more than 60,000 public charging stations nationwide. When driving the Mercedes-Benz EQB, EQE or Mercedes-Benz EQS-Class sedan, you can stay on top of your current charge through level 2 charging by viewing performance metrics on the MBUX infotainment system on the digital touchscreen display.
In addition, MBUX offers you guidance and directions to public charging stations or lets you know if you have enough charge to reach your destination and utilize electric car charging at home. You can also initiate payment for public charging through the MBUX infotainment system in your electric vehicle.
Benefits of Electric Car Charging at Home
With updated technology and more options for electric car charging at home, the choice to go electric is an easy one. However, there are many more benefits to driving electric. The most obvious benefit is that you’re reducing your carbon footprint and adding less noise pollution and fumes into the air when driving an electric vehicle, such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS-Class sedan.
In addition, you’ll save more on routine maintenance. Unlike gas-powered vehicles that require muffler changes, engine repairs, and oil changes, the electric vehicle lineup needs minimal maintenance. Consider the positive aspects to your pocket book and the environment when choosing to go electric.
